Haddon Hall Historic House and beautiful gardens
We have so many wonderful old houses and buildings and gardens to explore in The Peak District. Haddon Hall is an old Tudor Manor with beautiful terraced gardens overlooking fine countryside. It is being restored currently for the owners Lord and Lady Edward Manners and family to move back in after 200 years.
Haddon Hall has featured in films such as Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre and is just 3 miles from Chatsworth House.
When we visited there were activities for children of all ages including archery on the lawn, live music in the main hall and story telling for children sitting on log stools around a glowing fire in a panelled room overlooking the walled and terraced gardens plus posy making from lavender and herbs in the old kitchens.
The cafe offers a welcome cuppa and delicious cakes after your tour and Sunday roasts include local beef. Special offers during Autumn weekends.
The activities, simple furniture, large rooms and glowing fires gave a homely feel to the large imposing old house. The guides were helpful too and enthusiastic about the history of the house.
